Simran Chadha, a class 8th student in 2015, innovatively designed the blueprint of reversible benches at parks. Watching the benches getting dirty and wet, especially during monsoons, Simram devised the plan of adding a rotating handle that could flip the counter and provide fresh space for people to sit. She has got a patent for the design for 20 years by National Innovation Foundation (NIF).
Her design has won her the ‘Ignite Award from National Innovation Foundation’ organized by the NIF, an autonomous body working under the Government of India. Her design was among seven innovative ideas, shortlisted out of more than 28,000 entries. She went to receive the award from former President of India Pranab Mukherjee at IIM-Ahmedabad.
Hailing from Ludhiana, Punjab, Simran studied at BCM Arya Public School. She wants to become a scientist in the future.
